Ayurveda: The complete natural healing system for the body, mind & spirit. with Tresa Laferty CAP
Yoga and Ayurveda go hand-in-hand and are often called sister practices. The word Ayurveda literally means the "knowledge or science of life" – learning "how" to life. Ayurveda being the science and yoga is the practice of the science. Ayurveda helps us discover who we really are and what choices are best for us. It is a personalized system of healing that touches our mind, body and spirit. So, where did you learn your current eating, sleeping and lifestyle habits? If you were lucky, you learned some of this from your parents. If you are like most people, you learned these things when you went to college or moved out on your own. Yikes! Wouldn't you love to have a system of healing that showed you how to eat, what foods are best for you, what lifestyle habits help you live a healthy, happy and long life? Ayurveda has ancient knowledge to help our us live in balance in our modern lives.
Saturday, June 23rd 1-3pm Part I: Discovering Your True Nature. The system of Ayurveda not only helps us understand our natural tendencies but teaches us to embrace them. Did you ever go on a "diet" that worked wonders for your friend and when you tried it, not only did you feel awful, but you actually gained weight? It wasn't the right thing for your body. This class will help you see yourself through the eyes of the 5,000 year old system of healing called Ayurveda where we talk about "doshas." You will discover your "dosha type" and learn simple ways to bring your body back in to balance.
Saturday, July 14th, 1-3 pm Part II: Dinacharya: Daily Routine. Finding balance on a daily basis is a foundational teaching of Ayurveda. We will discuss some of the most common daily practices that Ayurveda uses including: abhyanga (warm oil self-massage), herbal supplements (what makes Ayurvedic herbs different), lifestyle (learn ways to reduce anxiety and increase happiness), aromatherapy, color therapy, crystals and more! You will be given simple ways to pacify or support your personal issues.
Saturday, August 25th, 1-3 pm Part III: Food as Medicine. One of the easiest and most effective ways to improve your health is to use your food as healing medicine for your body. In Ayurveda, we are taught that consuming certain foods can actually alleviate health issues. Would it be great if your "prescription" for an ailment were to eat a yummy dish? Ayurveda teaches us what foods we should consume for specific conditions and body types. Learn what is best for YOU, what to avoid and some simple ways to improve your diet. We will be sampling some food too!
Each class is $20 but if full amount is pre-paid, you get all three for $50. There will be a FREE 1-hour Ayurvedic Open House after each event. This is an opportunity to ask questions of our Ayurvedic Practitioner, explore Ayurvedic products and find out about our upcoming Ayurvedic Health Counselor training program.
