Act the Part: an Instant Fitness Solution

Whatever you want in life, act the part, and you are much more likely to get it.
I was at the gym yesterday with my 17-year-old son James and I was feeling exhausted. I had pushed the first part of my workout, the cardio, past my usual limits. I was walking toward the drinking fountain looking spent. It actually felt great to act exhausted because I felt I had just earned it.

My son then said, “Dad, you’ll feel better if you just act the part.” I replied, “What do you mean by that?” He went on to explain that you can get a huge rush of energy by simply walking as though you are energized. Instead of walking slowly, shoulders dropped, taking exhausted breaths; walk briskly, head and shoulders up, light on your feet, with strong deep energizing breaths.
Wow, it had an instant effect. I immediately felt better simply by acting the part of an athlete. With my newfound energy I was able to continue on and complete a much bigger workout.

Isn’t that funny? The idea of simply thinking it, brings it into reality. It’s as though we can trick the mind with our actions, and trick our body with our thoughts. It seems like a universal truth. Think it and you’ll be it. Act the part. Fake it till you make it. Attitude is everything.

So whatever it is that you want in life today, act the part and you are much more likely to get it. And remember, whatever part you are acting, whatever story you are telling, whatever thoughts you are thinking… you will probably get THAT whether you want it or not… so pick a good part to act.
