the healing community AT FAIRVIEW LAKE
The Healing Community provides a week of camping for New York and New Jersey families who are infected/affected with HIV/AIDS. Our camp takes place at the Fairview Lake YMCA camp in Stillwater, New Jersey. There is no cost to our families, as the program is funded through donations. Music, art, nature and healing modalities are the core of what we offer the families who come to camp.
During our week at camp, we stay in rustic shelters with no electricity and share bathhouses with showers and flush toilets. There is no TV or video games. We eat each meal together, family style dining, in the camp hall. We spend our days boating, hiking, swimming and doing art projects. In the evenings we enjoy musical events, campfires and other group activities.
What we offer our families is simple, but to most of them it's a week that they look forward to all year long. Visit the rest of our site to learn more about what we think is nothing short of a miracle.
